Gimme a smile
A member of the unique-looking group “Dunkelfolket”. They always wear dark clothes and masks cut out of wood. It is a kind of folklore theatergroup, but they are also always a part of the Carnival in Aalborg, and my favorite group in the parade.
Light Buzzard
A Buzzard (Buteo buteo), most likely a young adult, scouting for prey in Lille Vildmose, Denmark. Buzzard usually have more brown feathers, but the lighter scheme seen here is not uncommon, especially on younger birds.

I think it may have just finished eating. You can still see a bit of blood on the beak.
Roe Deer in the evening light
A deer (Capreolus capreolus) fouraging in the evening light. The Roe deer is the smallest deer in Europe. They are quite common in Denmark, and even though they are shy, it is not uncommon to spot them in the far end of a field. To get closer can before of a challenge , but it isn’t impossible.

Crane in Flight
We’ve had a large amount of Cranes in Lille Vildmose this year. They are regular guest, but this year I actually spotted close to 50 in one spot. It is an impressive sight to see a flock of these giant birds flight fly close above you.
Cabin in the Mountains
I spent part of my summer in Norway. Even though it is “just next” to Denmark where I live, I am always surprised how beautiful Norway is. Blue skies (sometimes), Green forests, grey mountains and snow even in the summer, at least on the mountain tops.
Everything seems so calm and quiet and if that wasn’t enough, the Norwegians are such nice people.

Not So Ugly Duckling
In the famous fairy tale “The ugly duckling”, H.C. Andersen tells the tale of a baby swan hatched with a batch of ducklings, and how they call it an ugly duckling. H.C. Andersen apparently didn’t look too close at the baby swans, because they are not ugly at all. This one is approximately a week old. I watched the batch it belongs to being hatched a week earlier.
Wolf Brothers
The two wolfs Iglo and Isak are brothers and can be seen in Bjørneparken (The Bear Park) in Flå, Norway.
Contact
Up close with a curious ring-tailed Lemur (Lemur Catta) in Odense Zoo. It is my daughters favorite animal and as a surprise we had arranged for her to get into their habitat and help feed them. I think that is a memory she will cherish for years to come.
Hokko
Black curassow (Crax alector) from Odense Zoo. In danish the bird is called “Gulnæbbet Hokko” meaning “Yellow-beaked Hokko”.
It is a really beatiful bird, with the bright yellow beak and the little curly feathers on the top of the head.

Fuzzy Cow
I were actually out looking for interesting wildlife to photograph, when this curious and very cute looking cow caught my eye. It seemed very interested in what that strange human being was doing 🙂
Toucan II
This Toucan lives in Copenhagen zoo.
Return of the Lizard King
I am not an expert on reptiles, so I am not sure exactly which species this is. It is possible an Agame of some sort. Anyway, it had a really cool texture that I think works really well in monochrome.
Cruising
A White-tailed eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla) passed right over my head on my last visit to Lille Vildmose, Denmark. It is a really crazy experience to have on of these giant birds pass right over you. With a wingspan of more than two meters, it is the biggest eagle in Northern Europe.
Pheasant
Common Pheasant (Phasianus colchicus). A beautiful bird that can often be seen in the danish nature. It is not particular shy, unless you want to get too close.
Jackdaw
Eurasian Jackdaws (Corvus monedula) (Allike in danish) are quite common in my part of the world. Still most people tend to think it is just a crow. It is actually quite different and has very shiny feathers and some very cool eyes.

Rørdrum
I have been trying to see this bird, a Eurasian (great) bittern (Botaurus stellaris) for a long time. I finally spotted it, and what a peculiar looking bird. It is really hard to spot it when it sits perfectly still between the reeds. I heard it before I spotted it. It had a unique sound, kinda like when blowing in a bottle, but very loud.
..oh and Rørdrum is the danish name for this bird 🙂
Hunter
It is always fascinating to see a fox hunting for small rodents. You can tell immediately when they found one. They freeze up for a moment and turn their ears in the direction of their prey. And they get a very determined expression. Moments later, they jump high in the air and lands upon the place they think the prey is located. In most cases (that I have seen), the attack is successful.

Time to leave the Nest
A young Redstart (Phoenicurus Phoenicurus) is taking a short break after having left its nest for the first time. The parents stayed nearby and sent warning twirps my way, so after taking a couple of pictures I left it alone again. It stayed nearby for a couple of hours and then it was gone.

My Westie Eddie loves running around in the garden, even when it is very cold. Especially when we do a bit of obediency training as well. It is a bit cold for me to lie on the frozen ground with my camera, though, but that’s the price you gotta pay I guess 🙂
